THE HISTORY OF TEMPLIN FORESTRY, INC.

             Templin Forestry, Inc. has roots going back to 1962, when Jerry T. Davis, of Monticello, Arkansas, founded a forestry consulting firm named Davis Forestry.  Mr. Davis has always been a strong supporter of the free enterprise system and an effective motivator of people.  During the 1960’s and 1970’s, one of the main problems and opportunities was getting the “hard work” done in the forest, such as herbicide application and tree planting.  Mr. Davis devised effective and economical systems of people management and began pursuing this type of work in surrounding states.  He gained national attention through innovating a directional spraying nozzle which was patented in the mid 1960’s.  The business grew during the 1960’s and 1970’s, providing comprehensive forest management services in Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.  During the late 1970’s his firm employed over fifty graduate foresters.

            Steve Templin began working with Davis Forestry in January 1979.  He worked for a year at the main office in Monticello, Arkansas as the Administrative Assistant to the Division Manager of the Professional Services Division.  During this time he learned the business aspects of consulting forestry and gained field work experience.  Near the end of 1979, Templin was moved to Louisiana to run the Professional Services Division of Davis Forestry in Louisiana.  During the period from 1979 through 1983 Templin also was responsible for the Contracting Division.

            In 1983, Davis and Templin jointly formed a new corporation to provide comprehensive forest management services to clients in Louisiana.  They named the company Davis Forestry of Louisiana, Inc.  In 1989 Templin bought Mr. Davis’ stock and renamed the company Templin Forestry, Inc.
